Montreal – the so called “City of Saints” – is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec, and the second largest city in the country, being beaten to first place by Toronto. French is the city’s official language, making it the second largest French-speaking city in the world (only Paris is bigger), but English is also widely spoken in case your memory of GCSE language lessons is patchy!

It has been called Canada’s Cultural Capital, and it has a fantastic, buzzing nightlife. Supper Clubs

Montreal is home to many a supper club, each of which offers a cool, laid back atmosphere and a whole host of options for fine dining. Usually more popular with the young more than the old, these clubs will often see celebrities and high flyers mixing with the city folk and travellers alike; they are true hotspots of nightlife.

If you’re a keen celebrity spotter, a supper club is bound to be your best bet, so try the BounaNotte or the MED Bar to get your fix. Try and phone ahead to get on the guestlist – if you don’t, you’ll be in for a long wait.

Night Clubs

The night clubs in Montreal are probably the main attraction – get yourself down to the Latin Quarter or the Crescent for the time of your life. If you like your electronic 80s beats and a friendly party ambience, Electric Avenue on the Crescent is the place for you.

However, if you prefer to mix it up with all sorts of different genres, you’d probably prefer the fantastic Tokyo Bar – with hip hop, trance, R&B, retro and techno all making it into a normal night’s playlist, you’ll be sure to find something to your taste!

Dance Clubs

Red Lite and The Circus are two brilliant places to spend your night dancing until your feet feel like they’re falling off. They combine multi-talented DJs with some eclectic music and a hot atmosphere, and the results are great.

These two clubs in particular are on the smaller side, so you know what to expect as soon as you walk in. Buzzing but carefree, anyone who likes to dance will love a night at either club.

Live Music

On Ste Catherine, you’ll find the Metropolis, the perfect place for some post-dinner entertainment. Now over 120 years old, the venue has changed dramatically over the years, no longer offering “adult” shows!

Nowadays, you’ll find the more popular acts playing there – the Metropolis has been host to everything from Coldplay to Bowie!

And once you’ve had your fill of live performances, head over to Winnie’s on Crescent Street to wind down. Styled a bit like an English pub, its welcoming atmosphere and relaxing décor will make you feel like a Cheersregular.
